Double Exposure
Reflection: (picture 1)
What images did you select for your double exposure?
How do the objects relate compositionally?
How did you manipulate and modify each image?
What steps did you take to merge layers to create a unified image?
How do your images relate conceptually?
What concept, idea or meaning does your double exposure convey?
In the first picture posted for double exposure, I put together a picture of a bright blue sky with clouds in the corner, and a sunset over a mountain from the view of my Uncle's house in Vermont. I did these two because its complete opposite times of the day, but still relates compositionally by the way they are both dominantly blue. Also, the bright blue sky has the subject matter (clouds) in the corner, while the sunset has the subject matter(cloud in sky and mountain) in the middle and then to the opposite corner to the other picture. In putting both together, they even themselves out, making it so all compositions are seen and fill the whole canvas. I didn't modify either image, they are how they are without a filter or enhancement on the color. To merge them, I opened them both in photoshop and then dragged the bright blue sky out to a smaller window. Then I just dragged it back over onto the sunset and lowered the opacity to make both visible in the best way possible. Conceptually they relate in the way that they are both skies, just different times and places. Still, you can tell how they go together well.

Photo Essay
Reflection:
What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs?
Why did you select this place?
Why is it important to you?
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic?
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay?
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos, composition, viewpoint, angle, lighting, color vs black and white....
How did you visually unify your series of photos?
For my photo essay, I captured the relationship between my mom and her husband Brian, my step dad. I am trying to portray their love for each other. Not just in marriage but in friendship too. I tried to reflect their happiness in multiple pictures, which was an easy concept to capture. For example, they're holding hands, laughing, looking into each other's eyes, leaning on each other, and kissing. I have a few pictures of their wedding bands, which have skeletons on the outside of them, and the words "'till death do us part" on the inside. And also i started the whole series off with Brian "proposing". I picked an elaborate garden to host this shoot, which I have two pictures of in the last gallery. The garden is my neighbor's and she has spent years building it up to what it is now. I used to spend time it in when i was little, so I knew the best places to take the shots. I chose this specific scene because when a garden or flower comes to mind, typically one thinks of love or happiness so it only seemed fit. For the composition, I mixed it up a bit with where the placing of the subjects. The photos unify themselves by just being all about love and happiness and friendship.
